Pepper Nevins and Alex Harris were bored one December day in 2000 at 37.8915, -122.2753 so they decided to make a website.
Whilst hunting around for an available domain name, the two high school buddies were frustrated when all of their choices were already taken and decided to make up their own word. Thus Blunks was born, although pecularily Blunks.com was already taken, so they settled for Blunks.net
Over the years Blunks.net has served many purposes. Originally it was a place for Alex and Pepper's classmates and friends to gather around bulletin boards, blog posts and web pages. Anybody who wanted some space was welcome, and a number of projects arose, ranging from personal blogs flash animations and streaming videos, to a fantasy baseball league that continues to exist today.
However, times got tough for Blunks after the group split up around the country for college, with Pepper in New York City and Alex in Santa Cruz, California. Although the bulletin board survived for some years, and a few related sites like youwouldnt.com and ridemypwny.com remain, Blunks has become a shadow of its former self.
Pepper, now a graduate student in media and communications in London, operates the site today as a personal blog. It has had turns as a political blog and a tech blog, but now it is more modestly a piece of virtual real estate for him to call home.
I hope you will enjoy your stay!
